The last one in April

I've been a lazy updater. Well, there are exams to study for, but that would be a lame excuse because I don't study as much as I should and I do have time for updates now and then. Ah well, spice ay life. Let's see what Vesta brings (I hope I'll make it til 12am, otherwise the subject line will be a lie).

I wish I could participate in something as cool as the Y Conference. I'd draw 100 teacups with a green marker or run out of ideas after 10 random drawings and my piece wouldn't be included in the website. But it would still be fun!

Another fun thing is Eat Poo U Cat. A friend named Milda showed it to me and I registered. It's kind of like Explodingdog.com in a way, but you can not only submit sentences, you can also draw stuff and even guess what's drawn. Make sure you go there.

Then I saw Print Gocco - another thing that I probably will never have but want to very badly. Bah. :<

But let's not think about it anymore. It's spring andLove is in the air, on the ground or anywhere else you'd like it to be.

Oh, I would like to write for a little longer, but there's not much time left for me. May 1st Reboot is starting in 5 minutes. Don't miss it!

The Little Ones

I was about to say that I don't know how come I haven't posted about them earlier, but I'd lie, because I do know why; had only two kinda-okay songs and didn't think much of them. But, a few days ago, I had the chance to listen to their self-released album 'Sing Song'(2006) and loved it. Some people call The Little Ones one of the happiest indie bands around, others call them summery-sounding - which means practically the same thing - and I couldn't agree more.

Genre: Indie

Tracks to download
The Little Ones - Oh, MJ!
The Little Ones - Lovers Who Uncover
The Little Ones - Lovers Who Uncover (Crystal Castles remix) - I can't decide which one I like more: this or the original.

The Cool Hunter

I've read an article about cool-hunts and there was a link to a not-working site bellow, so I googled 'cool-hunter' and found this site. I know that you might not like the 'mainstreamness' of the thing, but I've found some nice things in there and I would like to share them with you.

I like packaging, especially when it's good.

Shoo Biz is about... shoes? And the way people sell them. Also, some more shoes for you to costumise.

How come kids get the best looking clothes, things and even bookshops?

This one might be my favourite because I happen to be a footie addict and want to have a room like that.

Street style! Inspiration-Nation! Street Stalker! Street Stalker! Street Stalker!

My dream bag.

If you're not too sure whether you want your tattoo to be visible 24/7, you should consider this.

Go to thecoolhunter.net for more goodnesses.

The Marveller

It is a zine! Look, what they've got to say for themselves:

The Marveller, a submission-based 'zine: a collage of radiant things!, a two-dimensional combination of awe and hooray, a tool for the now-livers and forward-thinkers!, a collection of excellence and wowzers!

Wowzers indeed :)

Fotologs

People, who prefer pictures to text, should really enjoy fotolog.com. The users of fotolog don’t write much, but their art makes your pupils dilate and any kind of text is a blurry mess after that. Go on, sneak a peak.

If you haven’t been there before, maybe you’d like some artists recommended? Look bellow:

- alyona - funky bags
- maemca - mainly nice photograps
- funnicular - pretty illustrations
- srtapolyester - merchandise and other spiffy things that I wouldn’t mind spending my money on
- logan - this lad takes amazing photographs
- derm - stunning streetart
- btoy - the kind of drawing style that I both adore and envy
- magooilegal - same as above
- whip_dxl - sometimes I prefer sketches to finished drawings. They’ve got so much more in them, I think.
- johanpotma - just look at the style! ;_;
- triple1 - I like doodles on pages with text, they look nice
- Wreck1 - I had the honour to meet this one in real life once! He’s also got a style that makes you want to snatch it :D Also, since he’s been a member since long ago, he sent me yet more recommended artists. Here are some of those:
- pyoto - another Lithuanian :)
- ekta - I’d like one of them framed pictures on my wall
- l_o - brilliant photographs
- titifreak - streetart. Quite amazing, in fact.
- viewww - is it me or the layout’s really hard to navigate? Oh well, it’s worth the trouble, believe me
- 108 - black & white goodness
- nedra - such fine illustrations!
- czakoo - I love stickers
- thruthone - streetart, but not your regular one!
- a_r_e_p_o - illustrations
- wheesel - some more stickers :3
- heldendaden - <3
- enntia - those should hang on my walls as well :<
- inside_of_a_dog - fotodoglog
- letoms - they sure know how to lower one’s self esteem :D

You should be occupied for a while now, so I’ll leave you to it. :)

P.S. notice how most of them aren't English.

EDIT: the links were broken, but I fixed 'em all :O Thanks to Milda for telling me <3

Drawball, Moby and Little Fluffy Clouds

First, I'm going to show you drawball.com. It's something similar to The One Million Masterpiece, but Drawball is more fun. My brother's already tried it and recommended and he's someone you should listen to when it comes to drawing/art related things :)

Then, you should watch the folowing videos by Moby:
Natural Blues
Why Does My Heart Feel so Bad?

They're from the year 1999 and 2000 and do you remember how they first showed up on TV? How you were younger and thought 'oh, I like the pictures and the dog'? What did you feel back then? Well, watch them and you'll feel everything all over again, plus some new emotions, because you always see things differently after a while. Maybe you never knew what a 'lonely heart' was until sometime recently and you can relate to them even more now. Umm... just watch them, they're magical.

And also, here's a song for you:
The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds

It's not a new one, but it makes me think of pink coloured skies.

Komar and Melamid

A concerned citizen named Milda gave me this link. It's a website featuring Vitaly Komar's and Alexander Melamid's work. The pair were the originators of the 'Sots art' movement (1970's, Moscow) and the activists of other various art movements in the USSR. Click on the chronology section to see information and photographs of their work. It's a must see.

Oh and they've bought the soul of Andy Warhol and many more artsy (and not) beings.

When I asked Milda whether I could link it here, she said: 'link the fuck away!'

So, there you have it Komarandmelamid.org.

Motifs

Uh-oh, I was reading around Design*Sponge and there was a post that the Owl motif is being used more commonly nowadays. I lost the link and cannot find it again anymore :< But I thought up some more common motifs in design/art:

Bunnies
This is probably the most loved and popular creature EVERYWHERE. Everyone likes a bunny, because bunnies are cute and they're sweet and you can make them evil, which adds even more to the cuteness. There's a bunny for every taste, for every style and for everything. Look, Miff is a bunny too! And bunnies sometimes tend to be suicidal (Bunny Suicides).

Cats
I don't know who wins the dogs vs cats battle among pet-keepers, but in art, cats do. They are either more visually torelable, or there are more cat-loving artists than not. Thom May used to say that one day he;s going to get a cat. I wonder if he did, it was a while ago now. I think cats are funny, I love them.

Girls
That's just because most of the artists/designers are male :< But hey, when you've got such artists like SerZhant, who gives a damn? Also, the fashion world is ruled by girls, yep.

Flowers
Floral patterns and photographs of flowers are everywhere. I don't mind at all. I mean, just look at the things Colorfilter does!

Birds
Notice how Julie West draws a birdie here and there in a lot of her illustrations. There are some owls too!

Monkeys
I hate these things in real life, but I just love them when they're drawn. Meomi's got a cute monkey character
as well as other cute animal things. Also, a DJ Monkey is another common thing among the artists.

Music
Everything music-related seems to look better. People with headphones, mixtapes, records, musical notes, DJ sets and even little animals listening and/or making music. Gabriele Magurno has some of the said elements and a girl in his layout. See? Popular.

Arrows, cicrles, hearts
Those are the main building blocks of vector art, it seems. Look, I did a vector search on Deviant Art.

Hmm, I've got lazy from here. What have you noticed, um? Do tell.

Jim Fiscus

What you see in your left is a fine example of what Jim Fiscus does with his photographs. No wonder he's got so many awards and other nice papers.

Visit his site at Fiscusphoto.com and see what the hell am I on about.
